Sergio Perez was dissatisfied that he did not finish on the podium in today’s French Grand Prix, which he blamed on a misleading communication from race control concerning the ending of a Virtual Safety Car late in the race. He said that the message caused him to miss out on a spot on the podium.
Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes passed Perez as they entered the first turn of the race, which resulted in Perez starting the race in third place on the grid. However he did prevent George Russell from doing similar.
When the first round of pit stops began on lap 17, the Mexican driver had already established a comfortable position in fourth place and was still within DRS range of Hamilton.
At that point, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc lost the lead and crashed into the barriers at turn 11. This practically handed the race victory over to Max Verstappen, who was Perez’s teammate, and Perez appeared to be on his way to finishing on the podium.
Perez was able to fend off a succession of assaults launched by Russell during the course of the remainder of the competition. But none of the drivers was able to do much to stop Carlos Sainz from speeding by them as he recovered from starting in the back row.
Russell made an attempt to follow the Ferrari into the turn, which led to a minor collision that caused Perez to cut the chicane before rejoining the race. However, the race stewards determined that this was a legitimate part of the competition and chose not to intervene.

He then went on to explain, “But it didn’t end, and I had the message saying that it’s going to end all the way through turn 12,” but it didn’t end. “I had no choice but to be so near to it.
Perez was adamant that “something was going on” and that something was fundamentally wrong with the system. “It said that it was going to end out of turn nine, but it ended up ending out of turn thirteen,” she remarked.
“It would appear that George had different information, and he was able to prepare for it in a more effective manner,” he continued.
It meant that the Mercedes was up to speed in time for the restart, which allowed Russell to push his way past the other driver. Although Perez did all in his power to turn the situation around, the Red Bull simply did not have the speed to compete with the Mercedes.
Regarding his performance in today’s competition, he commented that his pace “wasn’t terrific today.” “There are a few pieces that need to be analysed. I was unable to discover a solution that satisfied both my needs and my desires.
Christina Horner, the principle of Red Bull, was of the opinion that if it hadn’t been for the VSC, Perez would have been able to maintain his third-place standing.
“Checo suffered a little more this weekend with [tyre] degradation than we’ve seen him struggle in the past,” he added. “We’ve seen him struggle in the past.” “What made things difficult for him was that there was a problem with the safety car, often known as the VSC, under race control.
They were unable to turn it off, so they were forced to perform a reset.
Horner was adamant in his assertion that “[Perez] complained he wasn’t receiving the delta in his car, so he was banging on his delta.” “Either George anticipated it but was still within the delta, or the information that was sent to the two cars could have been different.
He added, “We’ll need to go check that out and see what we can find out.” “It was quite disheartening because I believe that he would have had the pace to hold him off for a double podium finish.
He came to the conclusion that “nonetheless it’s still vital points today in both championships,” with Red Bull increasing its lead over Ferrari in the constructors championship by 26 points this week.
In the rankings for drivers, Perez is still in third place, although he lost the opportunity to tie with Leclerc for second place.
