Thiruvananthapuram: Days after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) made history by becoming the first incumbent government in Kerala to be re-elected in nearly 40 years, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reshuffled his Cabinet and welcomed 20 new members. Home Affairs, IT and Public Governance, and Vigilance have all been retained by Chief Minister Vijayan. Veena George has replaced KK Shailaja as state health minister, while his son-in-law PA Mohammed Riyas has been assigned the ministry of public works.
Apart from the Chief Minister, the only familiar faces in the new cabinet are K Krishnankutty of the JD-S and AK Saseendran of the NCP, who served as Water Resources and Transport Ministers in the previous LDF government, respectively. The LDF has retained power in Kerala by winning 99 seats, beating its rivals-Congress-headed United Democratic Front (UDF) and BJP-NDA. While UDF could manage only 41 seats, the saffron front failed to win any seat in the polls.
