John Rawls Theory of Justice
A Theory of Justice is a 1971 work of political philosophy and ethics by philosopher John Rawls. It aims to present an alternative to utilitarianism and to address the issue of distributive justice.
Rawls argues in A Theory of Justice for a coherent reconciliation of liberty and equality that applies to the fundamental structure of a well-ordered society.
Everything to know about the Rawls Idea of Justice
A Theory of Justice was first published in 1971. It was amended in 1975, and while translated editions were issued in the 1990s, it was rewritten again in 1999. Rawls followed up in 2001 with a work titled Justice as Fairness: A Restatement. In 2004, the original version was released.
According to Rawls, the most rational choice for the parties in their initial position is two principles of justice: the first guarantees the equal fundamental rights and liberties necessary to protect the fundamental interests of free and equal citizens and to pursue a diverse range of conceptions of the good.
Our legal system strives to embody three principles: equality, justice, and access.
